Liz Ortiz of Mad Hare Press & Stacey Sickler of Peaced Together Art
The Work Beneath began as a conversation between Liz and Stacey about the struggles that shaped their lives and their art. As they talked, they realized how many artists they knew carried powerful stories that weren’t always visible in the work itself. They created this series to make space for those stories to be told, for makers to be seen, and for all of us to feel more connected through shared experience.
While this project is something Liz and Stacey care deeply about — and they recognize that the stories shared here can be tender, vulnerable, and serious — they also believe joy matters. Both have a silly side, and you can often find them by following the raucous laughter that inevitably shows up whenever they’re together.
